But a larger part is creating a forum where you can learn directly from masters of their craft across the drinks industry. From agricultural techniques to distillation all the way through cocktail development & service, here you will find a spectrum of knowledge to soak up and experiment with.

  • Base Spirits

Gin & Aquavit, Rum, Tequila & Mezcal, Whiskey, Brandy, and Vodka

Retail shelves are lined with thousands of spirits. A bar must whittle that selection down to what can fit on the backbar. At home, a single excellent bottle in each category of spirits can create endless cocktail possibilities while offering the quality to sip neat and pair with food.

  • Modifiers

Liqueurs, amari, vermouths, sherries, apertif wines, and bitters

This is the supporting cast of cocktails, supplementing base spirits and adding extra layers of complexity. Beyond the larger categories of modifiers, bitters are a bar's spice rack. They draw out and bind unexpected flavors from other ingredients in a drink, doing their work in the background. Here, we don't carry options across the spectrum of modifiers, just a select few, so we recommend you visit your local bottle shop as you continue to add to your home bar.

  • Ready to Drink

    The re-emergence of canned cocktails

Sometimes, even with a full bar behind you and books full of ideas, easy prevails. Following in the footsteps of the return of cocktail culture in general, we have now begun to see a re-emergence of the once-popular canned & bottled cocktails - providing an alternative to the ease of opening a beer, wine, or seltzer. In the coming years, we hope to see creativity take hold as it has in the world's top bars to create a plethora of offerings that focus on the art & craft. Today, the only line of Ready to Drink we carry here is canned cocktails by Death & Co x The Craft Spirits Cooperative. Finally, we no longer have to sacrifice the opportunity to have a well-crafted, complex cocktail, no matter where we find ourselves.

Fellow Classics: Mint Julep

As Death & Co extensively explained in Cocktail Codex, every recipe is a riff on a classic. Here, we offer guidance on these templates as a great starting point for any original creation.

Fellow Tips: Some herbs, like certain varieties of sage, can taste off-putting when muddled, and muddling thyme creates a big mess and doesn't taste that great. Those herbs perform better as an aromatic garnish, or you might try extracting their flavor through an infusion or syrup instead.
