Featured Cocktail: Bourbon & Smoke from Asterid in Los Angeles

We are featuring Bourbon & Smoke by Cesar Castillo & Chris Chernock

of Asterid in Los Angeles.

They shared their inspiration behind the cocktail as well as the recipe.

This was inspired by Cesar’s trip to London and the memorable experience he had during high tea. The smokiness of the Lapsang Tea is a familiar flavor profile he’s fond of working with after years of working with Mezcal at Broken Spanish and balanced with the sweet complexity of cream sherry, the salty sweetness of plantain chip tincture and a hint of spice from the Chile liqueur.

Bourbon & Smoke Cocktail Recipe

1 ½ oz lapsang tea- infused bourbon
½ oz Alma Tepec Chile liqueur
¾ oz Sánchez Romate Cream Sherry
3 dashes plantain chip tincture
scant ¼ oz demerara

Add all ingredients to a mixing glass and stir for 20-30 seconds, tasting throughout. Strain over a large ice cube and garnish with a banana leaf.
